Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris
Paris, France is home to the
largest public park, the Jardin de
Luxembourg. It lies in the city’s
6th arrondissement. It is the garden
of the French Senate, which is
housed in the Luxembourg Palace.
The Jardin de Luxembourg is known
for its calm and tranquil
atmosphere. It features statues on
the green parterre and basins of
water where children often sail toy
boats in.
The garden’s pond is surrounded by
regal statues of the former queens
of France.
A lovely orchard of pear
and apple trees lies in the
southwest part of the park where the
théâtre des marionettes, or the
puppet theater, stands.
The garden is home to more than a
hundred monuments, statues and
fountains. The sculptures include
Henri Désiré Gauquié’s Monument to
Jean-Antoine Watteau, Frédéric
Bartholdi’s first model of the
Statue of Liberty, Jules Blanchard’s
La Bocca della
Verità and two of
Jules Dalou’s works: the Homage to
Delacroix and the Le Triomphe de
Silène.
The Jardin de Luxembourg also has a
fenced playground and a charming
vintage carousel for the enjoyment
of children.
The garden’s gazebo is a popular
venue for free musical performances.
Nearby
is a quaint café. It offers
its customers with indoor and al
fresco seating from which they may
enjoy the music emanating from the
gazebo. |
